Archibald and Ann's daughter, Jane Thomson
married John Hendricks in the parlor of a Presbyterian
minister in Pittsburg, PA. The political offices of the
Hendricks family are well documented. Hendricks men
held public office in western Pennsylvania, Ohio and
Indiana.
Jane and John Hendricks had five children.
Thomas Andrew was the second son.
The political career of Thomas Hendricks is
enigmatic. Over the span of a lengthy political career
Hendricks served as a congressman, a senator and as
governor of Indiana. Twice he was tapped by his party
to be the vice-presidential candidate. Hendricks was a
Democrat and stridently vocal in his criticisms of
Abraham Lincoln. While some historians have labeled
him a staunch opponent of African-American rights
