on the site of the old Elleardsville School.
Demonstrating his acute understanding of human
motivation and the power of positive role models, Mac
began to staff his school with African-American
teachers when ever he found qualified candidates. In
this approach he was almost 100 years ahead of the
social thinkers behind the Black is Beautiful movement.
Although the school was staffed entirely by Black
teachers by 1875, Mac remained Principal of
Elleardsville until his death in 1893.
