Edwin Slye turned back mid-way, no reason
recorded. Edwin was still with the company as they crossed
the Missouri River above St. Joseph, MO, April 27, 1849 for
all three names are inscribed in the St Joe's Museum. By
1852, Edwin, who may have been restless and foot-loose, is a
guest in the City Hotel in St. Louis, MO. The last word heard
from Edwin was a June 1852 letter written to his wife about
plans to meet up with Bed and travel to DeWitt, MO. There a
headmaster position was waiting for him and he would send
for his family as soon as he was settled.
Edwin became critically ill on the journey to
Carrollton.
