The Seekers
The Gold Rush
1849, Sacramento, California.
Sacramento, California was invaded by a horde
singing O Susannah, and shouting: Gold! Gold! Gold!
To the misfortune of the law-abiding citizens of the
territory and a few innocently greedy gold-diggers, a
distressingly high proportion of gold seekers were lawless
men and virtueless women. Vigilante justice, the only justice
that dared protest the rising tide of violence, was
inconsequential in the face of rampant robbery, claim
jumping and murder.
And on the other side of the country....
1849, Washington, D.C.
Gold fever ravaged the area dementing many young
men of D.C. and surrounding areas. Their tormented spirits
echoed the cry of the West and the echo of: Gold! Gold!
Gold! cascaded into a demanding roar.
The Washington City and California Mining
Association (W.C.C.M.A.) was duly formed and preparations
for the 2000 mile journey were accomplished with a frantic
urgency.
