Catholic priests could be fined 50 pounds and
imprisoned for six months for saying Mass
No Catholic should be competent to buy or inherit
lands.

Children were to be taken from the influence of
Popish parents.
No public Catholic services were permitted and even
private services were risky. Yet a number of private homes
were used for Catholic worship. Soon after its enactment,
Queen Anne modified the part of the law prohibiting the
celebration of Mass and allowed Mass to be celebrated in a
private family of the Roman communion. From that time
many Maryland Catholics would set aside rooms as chapels.
Priests would come on horseback or on foot to celebrate
Mass and hear confessions, and neighbors would come from
miles around to worship. When anti-Catholicism relaxed,
some of these chapels were expanded into outbuildings.

Marsham Queen’s 200 acres of Inclosure were
bequeathed to his son Richard Queen. Barbadoes, Seaman’s
Delight and parts of Haddock Hills were also deeded to
Richard. He purchased Queen’s Hazard and Queen’s Gore.
