Thanksgiving is the holiday that exemplifies the Cox
family’s closeness. Roy, Kathy and Barbara take turns hosting
the day. Florence always takes the sweet potatoes although
she hopes that some year her offspring will ask her to bring
the dressing.
Having the experience of eight decades of life
Florence knows life has a rhythm and sometimes the rhythm
makes for a difficult dance. Her great-granddaughter Sadie’s
illness presents a very difficult rhythm. It was in February of
2011 that little Sadie was diagnosed with leukemia.
Sadie had been sick on and off but nothing that gave
a clue to the serious nature of what was bothering
her.
Life is so much clearer when viewed through the rear
view mirror.
I look now at my pictures of Sadie and I can see that
even when she seemed healthy her eyes tell the story
of progressing illness. But it was an invisible menace
and we just didn’t see.
The current prognosis is that she is leveling off. The
little angel has already suffered more than any child
should have to suffer. She still has another several
months of treatment. She stays a happy little
