Working Woman
It was the 1940s and the new slogan of the
hometown brewery played well on the home front. It was a
time when the corner bar, albeit dark and smoky, was a
gathering place for family and neighbors. The new slogan
was emblazoned on windows or spelled out in neon lights
inside and outside the saloon:
When you say Budweiser, you’ve said it all!
Florence knew the slogan and could even sing the
ditty. She firmly hoped when she began working for
Anheuser-Busch that the slogan encompassed more than the
